What is Fuel Tracker UK?

Fuel Tracker UK is a free, independent web, Android, and iOS app for finding the cheapest nearby petrol and diesel. It shows live prices on a map, sorts stations by distance or price, tracks price history and national trends, and can alert you when prices drop near an area you care about.

Where the data comes from

Prices are sourced from the UK Government’s Fuel Finder scheme under the Open Government Licence, and are presented without modification — we don’t filter, re-order, or adjust prices by brand. Data refreshes roughly every 5 minutes. Spotted something wrong? Report a price discrepancy directly with the Fuel Finder scheme.

What is E10 petrol?

E10 is the UK's standard unleaded petrol grade, introduced nationwide on 1 September 2021 to replace E5 as the default pump grade. It's blended with up to 10% renewable bioethanol — double E5's 5% — as part of the UK's push to cut transport emissions, since bioethanol is a lower-carbon alternative to straight fossil petrol. E10 is compatible with virtually all petrol cars built since 2011, and most built earlier; the UK Government publishes an official E10 compatibility checker for anyone unsure about an older or specialist vehicle. If your car isn't compatible, 'super' or premium unleaded E5 remains available at nearly every forecourt and is safe to mix with E10 in the same tank.

What is E5 (super/premium) unleaded petrol?

E5, usually sold as 'super' or premium unleaded, is the UK's higher-octane petrol grade and was the default unleaded fuel before E10 took over as standard in September 2021. It's blended with up to 5% bioethanol — half E10's content — and typically has a higher octane rating, which some higher-performance and older engines are tuned for. E5 stays available at almost every UK forecourt specifically so vehicles and equipment not compatible with E10 — older classics, some motorbikes, and certain small engines — still have a suitable unleaded option.

What is B7 standard diesel?

B7 is the standard UK diesel grade (also called DERV), blended with up to 7% biodiesel (FAME, made from vegetable oils or used cooking oil) under the EN 590 fuel standard. It's the default diesel sold at the vast majority of UK forecourts and is compatible with essentially every diesel vehicle on the road, including older engines not approved for higher biodiesel blends like B10. The biodiesel content lowers the fuel's overall carbon footprint compared with 100% fossil diesel, with no change needed to how the vehicle runs.

What is B7 premium diesel?

Premium (or 'super') diesel is also a B7 blend — up to 7% biodiesel under EN 590 — but refined and additised to a higher specification than standard B7, typically with extra detergent additives that help keep injectors and the fuel system cleaner, plus sometimes a higher cetane rating for smoother combustion. It costs more than standard diesel and is marketed on cleaner-running and slightly improved efficiency claims rather than being a meaningfully different fuel — any vehicle that runs on standard B7 can use premium B7 diesel.

What is B10 diesel?

B10 diesel is blended with up to 10% biodiesel (FAME) — a higher renewable content than standard B7's 7% cap — under an updated EN 590 fuel standard. It isn't yet widely sold at UK forecourts, because a sizeable share of diesel vehicles on the road aren't approved to run on blends above 7%, particularly older or specialist engines; B7 remains protected and available for exactly that reason. Check your vehicle manufacturer's guidance before using B10 — running an unapproved vehicle on it can affect fuel system components and any warranty cover.

What is HVO diesel?

HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) is a renewable diesel alternative made from waste fats, used cooking oil, and vegetable oils, processed into a paraffinic fuel under the EN 15940 standard rather than the FAME biodiesel used in B7/B10. Being chemically closer to fossil diesel than FAME, HVO is generally usable as a direct 'drop-in' replacement in many existing diesel engines without modification, and doesn't share FAME biodiesel's cold-weather storage and stability drawbacks. It can cut lifecycle CO2 emissions substantially versus fossil diesel. UK availability is still limited compared with standard B7 — check vehicle manufacturer approval before switching.
